The Michelin Guide's review
This museum boasts a vast collection of works spanning the centuries from Ancient times to the present, making it the fifth-largest art museum in the country. Today the collection exceeds 60 000 works. French 18C artists are particularly well represented. The museum has several large paintings by Rembrandt and Bruegel and presents excellent examples of the major 20C movements. Diego Rivera's fresco cycle on Detroit's Ford factories remains the institute's centrepiece.
